Where is Jesus? A poem.

JESUS AT THE PROTEST MARCH, ART BY LEAF KLEVJER

JESUS AT THE PROTEST MARCH, ART BY LEAF KLEVJER

Jesus described an upside-down kingdom

where the king is the servant

the servant is honored above all

the least is greatest

the poor widow honored as a great giver

the outsider a neighbor

with great compassion

who takes care of a man near dear

the thief the one who will join Jesus in paradise

but you are insisting that victims are criminals

asylum seekers are the killers they are running from

the dead must have somehow

deserved it,

and those who seek justice

are the unjust ones

you say yes those people are dying

but their lifestyle choices need attention

you say the effect

is the cause

these boundaries you are drawing make no sense

chaos is muddying truth

until “the center cannot hold”

we no longer even know our names

where we are from

who our Originator is or what God is like

and I think of Jesus in the table

“He fashioned a whip out of cords”

how long did he sit there fashioning that whip,

knowing he was going to flip those

tables

see all the coins spill, hear that satisfying

roll of clangs, watch people run to pick them up

he must have been

seething

so ready for

the kingdom

to come.
