Scenes from our house this weekend

When Becca came from Canada, she brought the book the creative family, by Amanda Blake Soule, stuffed into her little green duffel bag.

I love the book and all the ideas for creativity as a family, but I especially love the family drawing time idea.

Yesterday during afternoon storms, after a raucous game of Skip-Bo (I provided the Skip-Bo; my Superstar Husband provided the raucous), we sat down for family drawing time.

The family that draws together...

It was very, very lovely. I felt like I could totally concentrate on what I was working on, as well as enjoying being with the kids.  By the time I pulled the camera out, Leafy had finished with the whole art work thing and had fashioned himself a boat out of a broken umbrella.

We also shucked peas this weekend. (Pea shucking photos are by Chinua)

And, of course, we tried to keep Solo (who scoots, now) from putting things in his mouth.  “No shoes, Solo!”

Everywhere Solo

Who, me?

i love that book. i read it when the boys were newly born and i remember thinking about her ideas on getting them outside, into the world. they have been living outside since those first months and i sometimes think that is where they are most comfortable.

we are not quite at family drawing time yet, but i look forward to the time coming soon. awww, solo. when did he go and grow up? it happens so fast.

My son is almost 9 months now and he enjoys shoe chewing as well. Thanks for sharing about the book, now I am interested. I like reading you blog because we are living abroad as well (Indonesia), so thanks for writing. I love seeing pictures of your life.

I just found that book to bring back to India with us. I love the picture of their craft cupboard- so inspiring. It’s so great that you guys did the family drawing time. What beautiful pictures. We miss you!

Great book- I have it too, but it spends more time lookin’ pretty on the shelf that getting used. I’ll get it down and get creative tomorrow. (Although we DID make slime and soap monsters today, so we are getting out fair share of mess happening).

I love the creativity absolutely popping out of those pictures. You have an incredible family. :) And now, I’m thinking family drawing times need to become a part of our life too.
