Three Questions

1. What kind of chubbiness is this? I’ve never had such a deliciously plump baby before. Very reassuring, since I’ve lost so much weight myself. I would worry about the baby if he was not obviously a GIANT. You know, a giant baby.
When my milk came in on the second day, my German midwife turned to my Israeli midwife and said, “Now we have make sure to feed RAE.” (I had been steadily losing weight through the last few months of my pregnancy.)
2. How can I keep Renee from threatening to eat my baby’s nose?
3. And, is this baby GOING TO HAVE RED HAIR?
Also:
4. Who let the dogs out?
5. Why can I not have the fraud reversed on my bank account, just because I am overseas?
6. Why can I not drive with my headlight on during the day here without several men shouting, Light! Light! at me as I drive by? I appreciate the helpfulness, but Canadians like to have their lights on during the day.
7. Why did Jaya say that when I was pregnant I looked very old?
8. What is your very favorite book of all time?
9. And, how is it that I am scolded for my baby not having a hat on when we are out, when it is a hundred million degrees out, with humidity at 150% ?!!?

That is delicious milk chubbiness…and it’s a shame you can’t gain some yourself by nibbling on him.

He is perfection! Doesn’t it give you a warm and happy feeling to gaze at your healthy and beautiful child, and all the more so when he looks so much like you! My first was blonde hair with blue eyes with nearly no resemblance to my half-Asian self, and now my second looks like he might actually have come from me – so very exciting!! While you can see much of you in your other (very beautiful) children, your Solo resembles you much more dramatically.
Am very jealous (in the nicest way) of your successful breastfeeding, as evidenced by your gloriously plump boy! Congratulations again!
I just love your blog so much. Your children are honestly some of the most beautiful children I have ever seen. I just had my third and am joyfully going through some of the same.
Without a doubt…To Kill a Mockingbird. Best book of all time.
My first had reflux and it was a battle just to get food in her so people were constantly after me to switch to formula, which I never did. She is almost 3 now and very happy and healthy. My second is massively chubby (97 percentile for weight), and no one ever challenges my choice to breastfeed… It does feel good having a fat baby after dealing with a skinny one, although my shoulders hurt a lot more this time around from babywearing… small babies have their perks too.
I love Solo’s expression in the photo.
Judith was born in Australia and didn’t wear clothes at all for the first few months. Although we were living in a hippie community, so people were probably more shocked that she actually had a diaper on than that she had no clothes. Neither of my babies ever wore hats, or booties for that matter, despite that being a popular baby gift.
I just might want to fight Renee for the nose. He is pure sweetness. I can’t wait to find out about the hair. Only time will tell.
1. I love chubby babies. My second weighed 20 lbs at 3 months!! He had tan lines in the folds on the fat on his arms.
2. Eat the baby’s nose yourself before she gets a chance.
3. It looks like he might have red hair. He has such a light complexion compared to your other kiddos.
4. Not sure about the dogs . . .
5. Yikes! Fraud on your bank account. Did someone steal your identity? And why the heck does it matter where you are leaving??
6. Get a bumper sticker that says “I know my lights are on.”
7. Maybe she meant exhausted because you do not look old.
8. The Giver by Lois Lowry
9. Because everyone else apparently knows what is best for your children! Or at least they think so.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
That Solo… what a darling!
I wish I had answers to all of your 3 questions. but I am all out. I like Tiffany’s answers though. I will use hers, that is if I need answers. Love and peace. He will be blond not red. Maybe… in the right light. I am so decisive today.
He is gorgeous. I think he will be a red-head, or at least have strong hints thereof…
I love Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. And As I Lay Dying by Faulkner. And the aforementioned Beloved. And…Othello by Shakespeare, and Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris (so there is something to laugh at in my list).
Perhaps Jaya meant you looked like you had an old soul. You know, how some babies are born and just seem so comfortable in this old world…maybe she meant Solo was destined to be wise.
Perhaps everyone says Solo should wear a hat to cover his glorious red hair.
1. What kind of chubbiness is this? Happy Baby Chub
2. How can I keep Renee from threatening to eat my baby’s nose? Nothing. Some things are just meant to be done.
3. And, is this baby GOING TO HAVE RED HAIR? God willing, yes

4. Who let the dogs out? The Jamaicans
5. Why can I not have the fraud reversed on my bank account, just because I am overseas? B/c Banks are stupid
6. Why can I not drive with my headlight on during the day here without several men shouting, Light! Light! at me as I drive by? They enjoy stating the obvious
7. Why did Jaya say that when I was pregnant I looked very old? With age comes wisdom. Perhaps she meant that you looked wise.
8. What is your very favorite book of all time? Another Roadside Attraction by Tom RObbins
9. And, how is it that I am scolded for my baby not having a hat on when we are out, when it is a hundred million degrees out, with humidity at 150% ?!!? No Sunburn!
Your boy does look sooooo yummy looking! Why do adorable babies look edible? Always thought that was funny:o) I love all that chunkiness! My boy was never a chubby baby (7 lbs 6 oz at birth), he started to get chunky by a year but then he got really sick and lost a lot of weight, so he never did get his chunkiness back:( However, both my girls were massive compared to him (oldest was 9 lb 12 oz at birth, youngest was 8 lb 6 oz). I have breastfed all my kids, but I think it’s partially genetics on how big they get. Solo does look like he might have some red in his hair, he is beautiful. Your other children are, too! I’m fast forwarding to the second last question because I need to attend to my baby: my favourite book of all time is “The Horse and His Boy”, by C.S. Lewis. Take care!:o)
Three answers
1) You can only keep me from eating your baby’s nose if you bribe me with something sweeter, like nutella or something
2) Yes your babies hair is going to be red
3) I let the dogs out
Oh yah favorite book-
101 recipes for babies noses
I’m partial to chubby red-headed babies;-) How do you pick one favourite book? Both Hubby & I LOVE ‘A Fine Balance’ by Rohinton Mistry because it beautifully and horribly describes the juggling act for survival that a huge majority of the world face every day.
1. Deliiiicious chubbiness!
2. Let her have his adorable nose so you can have all that sugar under his chinny-chin-chin.
3. Maybe. My firstborn’s red hair all fell out and came in brown. He stayed chubby til age 6 though.
4. Who! who-who-who-who!
5. ‘Cause it would make more sense if you could.
6. Because life always sends you people who want to “help” you and instead drive you nuts.
7. Maybe “old” in India means something more like, “glowing” or “lovely”?
8. Keeper of the Bees by Gene Stratton-Porter. Hands down.
9. See #6 above.
Such a sweet picture & post….made me smile first thing this morning! Take good care of youself, Rae.
That beautiful family needs you healthy!
my husband found out about a false charge on credit card while we were in india. he had purchased something online and pretty soon someone else was using his credit card number. he had a heck of a time dealing with it and never got the money back.
i have so many favorite books, i can’t begin to name them all. LOTR is in there. i also love reading books by indian women (either translated or by indian women writing in english). if you are interested in a list, let me know. i bought a lot of them when i was in india, but continue to do so at home.
I continue to Love Love coming to this place of yours & to Fly Fishes Fly! Oh, and books, wonderful books! We are overflowing with never enough space for ours & no TV (Amen!) and going to the library so often we are swimming in pages. I could never pick a favorite. Here are just a few I’ve enjoyed…

The English Patient – Michael Ondaatje
Traveling Mercies – Anne Lamott
The Secret History – Donna Tartt
All Over But the Shoutin’- Rick Bragg
Waiting For Birdy – Catherine Newman

Dinners and Nightmares – Diane Di Prima
poems by Rainer Maria Rilke or Octavio Paz
one book? how to put it into one book?
i recently read BItter chocolate : Carol Off (canadian cbc reporter who travels the globe unvovering the secret truth to the worlds most seductive sweet) i haven’t read a book that has paralleled this one yet, as true raw and unrelentingly life changing, lets put it this way- you won’t want to buy a hershey bar or even look at one without thinking of slave children in cote devoire…and mali
i love this blog, it is such a magnificent life of its own, and i thank you for all your thoughts and sharing,
oh i love that little -dare is say- red haired baby
oh and another good read of late is Me to We, just a feel good all around one, i’m not much of a fantasy reader, i like real life stuff… thanks for inspiring me to try to read a fictoral book
(maybe that’s why i read this blog)
I’m gonna go for #3, but first, is it just me or does this boy’s eyes, hair and skin just keep getting lighter and lighter?? It’s amazing! IMO he’s going to have coloring and hair just like his ma ma’s…unless red hair runs in the fam, then he has a chance for red…IMO again.
I LOVE, adore, etc. the rolls! My kids were both super tiny, (6.2 and just under 7 lbs.), hard to imagine since Ron and are are such bigguns, eh? I always wanted a chubbo baby, but alas it wasn’t meant to be. Oh, and by the way, although his coloring is you I see Chin in the expressions so much!! It’s cool to see the blend of you both going on. He’s gorgeous just like your other three!
Definately must read Time Travellers Wife (Audrey Niffenegger)
Awesome awesome book
I’m a little late but needed to add “A Good Earth” by Pearl S Buck to the list. I could read it a hundred times over. I think I have….
Love fat babies… my sweet little bird, Annie is 20 lbs at 4 months. Her rolls are endless…as are her smiles!!
