Grandma

Last night my beautiful, beautiful, beautiful grandmother passed away.

I don’t know how to say how much I’ll miss her.  She was a force in my life that was grounding and true.  She loved me fiercely.

I know my Grandpa will miss her beyond words (they just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary) and my parents and all our other family.  She is an incredible woman, with a red-headed temper and the most loving arms.  She loved them all just as fiercely.  You could feel her love, from way, way off.

I wouldn’t want her to come back and be sick again.  I just wish sometimes that everything could stay like it was before.

I’m sorry. Hugs.

DO you still have your little red suitcase? I think of it every time you write about your grandmother because you told me she gave to to you. I have this idea from the way you talk about her of this very kind woman mixed up with a bright red, impossibly cheerful little case that you used to look at just to cheer up.

Is that odd?

So sorry. Sounds like she was one of a kind.

What can you say to comfort such a loss? It sounds as if she touched many lives and used her time here so wisely. I am part of a family that knows well this “fierce love” you describe and can only assume the grief in saying goodbye is heavy. Praying for your family as they find a way to celebrate her and her incredible life in the midst of overwhelming sadness.

another amazing thing about her was right near her last day, she wanted to make sure that Lara (her new daughter-in-law) had a sewing machine, so grandpa had to search high and low for it, until he found it. It was one from a group of machines she had, most of which she’d given to all of us, plus many friends.

I’ll miss her too!!! It hasn’t really hit me yet!

Hi Rae,

I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma. It’s painful to watch someone you love suffer but it’s almost more painful to see them leave us. She’s smiling down at you right now and I’ll bet if you close your eyes, you can still feel her loving you.

I hope you are well.

Oh, I’m really very sorry to read this news. Wishing you peace and comfort and the goodness of all your memories…and what strikes me is that she went home on Easter…what a great day (or night) to enter glorious paradise!

I’m sorry for your loss Rae.

The circle of life at these times is such a wonder to me. Here you are getting ready for a new life. This summer when my best friend’s father passed on his grandaughter was in labor. Such special babies, such a good reminder of hope.
