This sentence made my morning-- "you like to chuckle to yourself and say NO NO while you touch the things that you know you aren’t allowed to touch". What a character!

Geez, this almost makes me want to have a little one again. Thank God, for grandchildren so I don't have to get THAT crazy again. You are an incredible mom.

[...] I read two beautiful posts about parenting this weekend. One was by Bindi from Epossums, where she talks about having a child on the cusp of adulthood and another was from Rae of the JourneyMama blog, writing about having a baby on the cusp of being a child. Both posts made me think about the journey of parenting. When a child is young, and so freshly arrived via your own body, you tend to think of them as part of you. Parenting is the process of separating out from them, and teaching them the skills they need to live without you. I feel acute sadness in that, but also joy as I watch each one of my three taking their steps to becoming their own person. [...]

He is a beautiful child in every way.

I had forgotten about the beverage reverence and the chest-pounding 'please' of a 14 month old...

Thank you for writing this. It reminded me (in a good, sweet way, not a sad way) of my own babies, who are not babies any more.

Yes! "Babadu!" What does it mean???? I hear it every day too. Is it a secret language of 14 month olds we just don't know yet? This is a wonderful age, huh? So much love and discovery. Your writing is so beautiful, as always!

What a lovely post and tribute to the utter gorgeousness of your baby. I still call my nearly two-year-old my "baby" just because I can't bear that he's leaving babydom behind and turning into a little boy.
