A whole new era (of necessary watchfulness)

Streams of sadness or no streams of sadness, life does not stop for babies.  I just thought I should let you know a little about Leaf’s busy day.

It’s only the early afternoon, and already the Leaf Baby has:

Played in YaYa’s potty, after she peed without telling me and then left the door open.

Stuck his finger in the rat cage and received a little nibble which I couldn’t see but still made him cry. (I think this means he’s going to turn into a Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle or something.)

Opened a bag of barley and spilled the whole thing over the floor, after which he attempted to eat it-the raw barley that is, which set off a chain reaction of Barnum and Bailey-worthy events when the kids decided to “help” me clean it up, and I let them, only to notice Kid A swishing the barley into the living room (Space? How do you say that with an open plan?) with the broom and YaYa dumping the barley back out of the dustpan, at which point I took over, causing YaYa to dissolve into tears on my foot while Leaf was still trying to shove raw barley into his mouth, crying, because he didn’t like the way it tasted.

Dumped a whole cup of water on his face which was incredibly shocking to him.  YaYa had left her cup of water on the edge of the table and Leaf is now the exact height that he needs to be to pull something like a cup of water towards himself and dump it on his own face, causing himself to sputter and then burst into tears.

Took his first steps in succession.  He’s taken one step before, but today I sat down with him and practised and he found, to his delight, that he could walk to me.

I have 3 children also and yeah, sounds like a pretty normal day to me!! ;)

I sometimes feel I spend my entire day taking preventative measures, and not doing much else. I imagine the raw barley did not taste too good.

I remember the days of damage control-didn’t know if I needed a hard-hat or a haz-mat suit as my uniform. These days I wear a zebra suit and blow a whistle so as to referee my squabbling kids. :-)

Hooray for the first steps! Hope today’s shaping up to be much quieter for Leaf Baby. (and his Mama too!)

I know it’s probably not so funny to you, but it really made me laugh to hear your day, what a rollercoaster!

you know what’s strange about it all, is soon (well okay not so soon) they’ll be all grown up and won’t remember so much of this chaos…

and oh how sweet walking can be! yay leaf baby!

my daughters cry when i take the broom away too, it’s a full time job keeping the peace, let alone gettin the other stuff that needs to be done completed,

the funny part was leaf playing with the potty, yucky funny,
you could allways take some glue and have em glue the barley on a plate and make a mandala? ah glue is messy too…
you’re amazing!

Never a dull moment in the life of motherhood – at least you’re on one level – that good because I can remember some of the things that went on when we had more than one floor in our house. Kid #3 going downstairs in his walker because someone left the gate open to prevent any accidents and so on….

I bet you only turned your head for a second! Kids are pretty fast at taking advantage of that moment.

Congratulations!! It’s so hard when they walk but so fun. Too bad they learn to run so fast after they learn to walk.

Busy day! My life with Jack seems tame in comparison. Things get exciting around here when we spill Cheerios on the floor or a bird flies in the window.

Hang in there. Your children will undoubtedly have such warm, wonderful memories of the childhood home you are creating for them.

I remember those days, they were hard. But it’s fun to look back at them through your eyes. Thanks for the lift.
